Polymer Studios has successfully delivered a community engagement program on behalf of Esperia Court and Lighthouse Project Group for the proposed mixed-use redevelopment of 2–14 Churchill Avenue, Strathfield.
The engagement marks an important milestone for the project, which seeks to transform the prominent town centre site – adjoining Strathfield Square and Strathfield train station – into a landmark mixed-use development featuring 309 new homes, affordable housing, retail and commercial spaces, and a revitalised public realm centred on the square. A key element of the proposal is the opportunity to unlock the community’s long-held vision for a pedestrian-focused civic heart by relocating vehicle access away from Churchill Avenue.
To support the project’s early planning phase, Polymer designed and implemented an engagement program that encouraged meaningful dialogue with the local community and key stakeholders. The program included stakeholder communications, a dedicated project website, digital engagement materials and an in-person community information session where attendees met the project team, viewed the proposal and provided feedback.
The consultation attracted strong community interest, with residents, businesses and local stakeholders engaging in constructive conversations about the future of the site. Discussions focused on topics including new housing opportunities, improved public spaces, pedestrian connectivity and the role the development could play in strengthening Strathfield’s town centre.
This has helped inform the project’s ongoing design development and has been documented in a comprehensive Community Engagement Report to accompany the project’s State Significant Development Application. Delivering engagement at the earliest stages of project planning enables communities to better understand emerging proposals while providing project teams with valuable local insights. For 2–14 Churchill Avenue, the engagement program created a forum for open discussion on a project that seeks to balance housing delivery with improvements to the public domain and the long-term evolution of Strathfield’s civic centre.
